PROJECT.chair

MARCH.2009
To start us off on our creativity for the year, we were divided into two themed groups - In Transit and Expiry. The In Transit group is led by Ali Ganjavian & Key Kawamura from Studio Banana, with the help of Pablo Carrascal as an investigator. The Expiry group is led by Luis Urculo, with the help of Jorge Lopez Conde. I belong to the expiry group. We were also assigned a project. Each of us was to purchase the same Ikea folding chair, and to use it to start off our year-long thesis investigation project. We were also advised that we would have to bring the chair - in whichever way, shape or form we decided - with us on our first voyage - to Istanbul, Turkey. *kb

WORKSHOP.missoni.family.portraits

FEBRUARY.2009
We had a one-week-workshop with MISSONI. We worked with the suits they provided us with - made of their knit textiles - to create personal & group projects. The theme of my personal project was THE MISSONI FAMILY: portraying the 5 person Missoni family, a family of textiles, a family owned & run business and re*creating the familiar subject of family portraits. *kb

PROJECT.observing.madrid.fur

FEBRUARY.2009
As the majority of the EDL´09 class is made up of international students just arriving in Madrid, our warm-up project was based on getting to know our new city. Observing new things - different things - that we noticed about Madrid, as compared to other places. One of the things that stood out for me in this new land was that all of the women wore fur coats - something that even a girl like me - from a cold place like Canada isn´t used to seeing! To communicate my observations I created a video. *kb
